During 2020-2021 we used the covid catch-up grant to support children who had developed learning gaps as a result of the lockdown.
Children were thoroughly assessed through formative Assessment for Learning methods once they returned from the March 2021 lockdown. In depth Pupil Progress Meetings helped us to assess which children needed extra catch up support (on top of in school support) in order to meet their yearly learning target.
Specific and manageable targets were set by the class teachers and all interventions are conducted after the school day by our highly trained Teaching Assistants. Our Teaching Assistants were chosen to run these catch up sessions as they know the children’s needs and next steps. They have also been supported by core subject leaders in materials to use within the catch up sessions.
Catch up sessions are run over a half term block but remain fluid depending on children’s individual needs. TAs assess each child weekly in regards to their target and adjustments made as necessary. This is overseen by the DHT responsible for assessment.
